Support the Next Generation of Environmental Justice Leaders

Make a Difference in the Life of a Youth, Organization, and Whole Community

YOTI07 Dear Friend,

We hope that this letter finds you in good health and spirits. For the last 14 years the Youth Leadership and Development Campaign (YLD), of the Southwest Network for Environmental and Economic Justice (Southwest Network), has played an integral role in developing the next generation of youth leaders in communities of color across the Southwest and Western United States and Northern Mexico. Organizations, communities, and people have been empowered for the better by their participation in the Summer Youth Placement Program (SYPP) and the Youth Organizing Training Institute (YOTI).

The Summer Youth Placement Program (SYPP) is a ten-week internship program that gives youth an opportunity to work with a Southwest Network affiliate organization in their community and work on the issues that affect them the most. Interns are provided a stipend and an opportunity to attend the YOTI. The Youth Organizing Training Institute (YOTI) is a one- week training institute that brings together youth of color from all over the Southwest and engages them to develop their knowledge, leadership skills, and learn new organizing skills from each other.

"I consider my participation in the SYPP program as an essential part of my development as a social justice advocate. The internship provided me with the foundation as an organizer and taught me tools necessary to be an effective leader." - Maria Loya, 1995 SYPP Alumni who interned at People Organized in Defense of Earth and Her Resources (TX)

Since 1994 over 127 youth like Maria have graduated from the Summer Youth Placement Program and since 2002 over 200 youth have participated in the Youth Organizing Training Institute. And we would love to see those numbers grow. With your generous tax-deductible donation you can make it possible!

Every dollar that you donate today supports the development of low-income youth of color across the southwest into the leaders of tomorrow. A small donation of only $50 dollars or even a large donation of $500 helps pay for a stipend to support a youth in the SYPP and it helps to pay for the travel, lodging and food for youth to participate in the yearly YOTI.

This year the theme for the YOTI is "A R.O.S.E for a New World - Revolutionizing, Organizing, and Sustaining our Environment for a New World" which will take place in Oakland, California. And we need your help to make this the best YOTI ever! The more money that we are able to raise means that we are able to provide more opportunities for youth to participate with the SYPP and YOTI. We hope that we can count on you for help. Please support the efforts of the YLD Campaign with a small donation of $50 or the most generous gift you can.

Today, you can make an immediate difference in the life of a youth, an organization and a whole community by making a contribution on our website www.sneej.org or via regular mail: Southwest Network for Environmental and Economic Justice PO Box 7399 Albuquerque, New Mexico 87194 Please make checks payable to Community Networking Resources.

We look forward to working with your organization and your youth in building a broader social, economic, and environmental justice movement! If you have any questions please call the Southwest Network office at (505) 242-0416 or (310) 403-7964 or via email: michael@sneej.org
